In this song there are a few pieces of figurative language. There is assonance in the song.
The assonance is the repetition of the long O sound from a lot of the words. One paragraph in particular has it multiple times. He says, “Why am I soft in the middle now?
Why am I
soft in the middle?
The rest of my life is so hard
I need a photo opportunity
I
want a shot at redemption
Don’t want to end up a cartoon
In a cartoon
graveyard”
Bonedigger, bonedigger
Dogs in the moonlight
Far away my well-lit
door
Mr. Beerbelly, Beerbelly
Get these mutts away from me
You know I don’t
find this stuff
Amusing anymore.
Alex, there is indeed some assonance in this song. Remember assonance involves the sound and not the letter, so "photo / bonedigger / know / don't" (long O) is a different pattern from "soft / opportunity / shot / dogs" (short O, to which I would add the chorus: "bodyguard / long / lost / call / call / call"). What other patterns do you see here?
